What makes us unique?

At HSS Design Build, we’re always striving to stay on the cutting edge of sustainable techniques and building products. Our mission is to accelerate the transition to sustainable and energy efficient construction in Western Canada, and to achieve this we need to employ innovative methods, such as Passive House principals, mass-timber materials, natural materials, prefabrication and more. Further, we want to be sure that we’re considering building solutions from the operational end (ie Passive House) as well as from the embodied carbon end (ie natural materials), which results in a lower carbon intensive building from construction to use.

Our Innovations Page is a great place to start if you are looking for resources on Passive House, Mass Timber, Prefabrication and Natural Materials. Check it out, and if you’re interested in building or designing with any of these techniques in mind, reach out to us and we’ll do our best to assist you!

Notes:

The “operational carbon” of a building refers to the emissions associated with using the building after it has been built (heating, electricity etc.).

The “embodied carbon” of a building refers to the emissions associated with the materials and construction of the building.
