Opening The Doors for the Calgary Solar Tour

On June 20–21, 2026, HSS Design Build was proud to open the doors of our collaborative Springbank Passive House project as part of the Calgary Eco-Solar Home Tour, inviting visitors to experience what high-performance building looks and feels like in practice. Featuring 15 innovative homes and energy-efficient projects across Calgary and the surrounding area, the tour gave homeowners, builders, and sustainability enthusiasts the opportunity to explore practical solutions that are shaping the future of housing.

The Springbank Passive House showcased how thoughtful design, advanced building science, and careful material choices can create a home that is comfortable, energy efficient, and built to last. On Saturday our team shared insights into the home's design, construction process, and the strategies used to reduce energy demand while improving comfort, indoor air quality, and long-term resilience.

Visitors had the opportunity to see firsthand the elements that make high-performance homes different, including prefabricated construction techniques, a highly efficient building envelope, Passive House principles, and all-electric systems designed to reduce operational energy use.

“The Eco-Solar Home Tour connects the public with homeowners of energy-efficient, and net-zero energy homes so that they can see how it is done.” says Eco Solar Tour Society president Andrew Mills. Events like the Calgary Eco-Solar Home Tour provide an important opportunity to connect with the community, share knowledge, and demonstrate that high-performance homes are not just possible - they are practical. By opening our doors, we hope to inspire more homeowners, builders, and industry professionals to explore better ways of designing and constructing the homes of the future.

We look forward to continuing these conversations and working toward a future where homes are healthier, more efficient, and built with sustainability at their core

A sincere thank you to everyone who visited and took the time to learn more about high-performance building. We would also like to extend our appreciation to our project partner Tomaz Stich from Stich Consulting & Design who joined us during the tour to answer design-related questions, share his expertise, and be part of the conversation.

We also extend our appreciation to the organizers from Eco Solar Tour Society, volunteers, and all participating homeowners who helped make this year's tour a success.

We look forward to continuing these conversations and working toward a future where homes are healthier, more efficient, and built with sustainability at their core.
