PEER Project in Canmore - in progress

Prefabricated Exterior Energy Retrofit (PEER) GBTN23 Initiative

This is the second PEER-related project in Canmore and part of the ongoing GBTN23 research. It focuses on prefabricated, low-carbon wood-fibre retrofit panels, demonstrating an innovative, panelized exterior energy retrofit system.

By tackling challenges such as high upfront costs and limited hands-on training, the project supports the development of scalable, sustainable retrofit solutions for Alberta and beyond.

Innovative Energy Retrofit with Prefabricated Panels

This single-family home is receiving a deep energy upgrade using exterior prefabricated panels - that allow homeowners to stay in place during construction.

The project revitalizes an older home while showing how modern design and smart building methods can deliver efficient, resilient, and visually appealing results.

Key features include:

  • Low-carbon wood-fibre insulation for a reduced environmental footprint

  • High-performance air-sealing to limit energy loss and boost comfort

  • High-performance windows for improved efficiency and year-round comfort

  • Increased noise reduction through enhanced insulation and airtightness

  • A clean, modern exterior that blends with the natural surroundings

  • Off-site panel fabrication to accelerate installation and reduce disruption

  • Enhanced thermal performance that cuts heating and cooling demand

The process
