One of the Most Sustainable Home Retrofits in the Bow Valley

This spring, HSS Design Build launched one of the most sustainable home retrofit projects in the Bow Valley, featuring Low Carbon Prefabricated Exterior Energy Retrofit (PEER) panels. These innovative wood fibre panels reduce energy use, sequester carbon, and are installed entirely from the outside—meaning no disruption to your daily life and no lost floor space. With support from IFIT and SSRIA, this cutting-edge approach is being piloted across three homes, paving the way for a more energy-efficient future.

Prefabricating Low Embodied Wood Fiber-Based Retrofit Panels

This innovative project, led by HSS Design Build and partnered with Renu Engineering/Retrofit Canada, SAIT Green Building Technologies, Biosphere Institute of the Bow Valley, and Woodworks! Alberta, highlights the use of panelized retrofits with low-carbon wood fiber insulation to boost building energy efficiency. By addressing cost and awareness challenges, the project aims to reduce emissions and promote sustainable retrofitting, with practical demonstrations on three different type of dwellings.
